Dental Websites:
What is important when considering your practice's website?

Our suggestion is to start with the basics: first, define why you want a website. Perhaps you need it to:

  1. attract more patients
  2. handle more effectively the current high volume of patients
  3. provide a map with driving directions

We create a very different website for a dental practice who needs more patients than we would for a practice with a large patient load that needs to be more efficient. Some practices, of course, may reflect both scenarios!

Second, we suggest you do some research at your dental practice. Put a pad of paper by each phone and track the calls: why are patients calling? Do they need to find out what insurance your practice accepts? Then post it on your website. Do they need parking information or a directions? Then have an FAQ page to answer these questions and have a map on your Contact page. Have they been searching online for certain dental health information? Make sure your practice has that information available for them.

So many pages in a package, do I need them all?

Our two standard website packages include various amounts of web pages: 10 or 20. For a dental office without a website it might seem impossible or unnecessary to have 20 pages in a website. Not so! Some of our current health practice websites are 30, 40 or 80 pages so they can express all that they do for their patients.

Each page becomes a selling point for your skills and services. If you want to promote your teeth whitening services, for example, the wrong way to approach this is to list it on a Services Page and do nothing else. Instead, create a page all about teeth whitening so you can explain your approach and what makes you better than your peers. There should be a link to this page from your Services page, of course.

A unique page for each service that is linked from the Service page will help your website get noticed online via the "organic" or "natural" search engine optimization process that patients prefer!

Looking at two scenarios, here are some ideas:

Attracting More Patients
This type of website needs to make sure that the keywords current or future patients use in search engines are somewhere on at least one page. Simply put, you cannot have too many pages on your website. Each page should serve its purpose to describe the procedure, explain the outcome or the potential complications that might arise.

Handling a High Volume
To begin, how can you reduce the call volume? Phone calls interrupt the practice's workflow and require a quick remedy. One way to make it better for the staff and the patients is to put forms online. Patients can complete them while at home (with their records around them). The office doesn't have to ask them to arrive 20 minutes early to fill them out. HIPAA requirements need to be abided, of course. We suggest posting forms as a PDF to be carried in or faxed to the dental practice or else a link can lead to the practice's EMR (electronic medical record) provider if they have a secure portal for such content..

Our Suggestions

Our work is customized to meet our client’s needs. We can add various pages to enhance the website's functionality. When working with dentists' practices, our goal is to increase efficiency by seeing what the practice needs and what patients want.

The easiest way to make changes online is for you to contact us with the material and we take care of all the web content updating - you can focus on your practice and not know anything about writing in html (the computer language web pages use).

Our website service proposal is detailed with the different website packages we offer and the pricing of our services. We educate our new clients to understand not only how search engines work but - more importantly - how search engine users work. Once you know what terms they use when looking for the services you offer, you can better write text for your pages to match what they are looking for online.

The right website service will enhance the doctor’s practice. We happily consult with our dentists to customize the web solution to meet their needs.
