That is a question that often comes up as a website is designed. Here's the answer: the correct text on the pages is more important. Pictures help the viewer enjoy your page, but the text gives important information to the viewer AND to the search engines! Every page is there to represent a specific aspect of your business. Each page must have a focus of one or two top keyword phrases in the text to be successfully recognized by the search engines.

How does someone go about writing text for a web site? Sure the rules you learned in English class are a start, but there is a lot more you need to know to write effective text for a web page. Promote your website to others. Make sure your business cards, your brochures, your Yellow Page ad, your newspaper ads, your phone message, etc. promote your website.
Get links from other websites. Your Aunt Florence might be willing to put a link from her site to yours, but unless she is in the same industry it won't help that much. Someone in the dental field, for instance, should have links from websites belonging to anyone and everyone that is in their field. A insurance company website should link to it; so should every organization that the dentist is a paying member. The more links to your site (not from your site to others) the better your ranking will be!
