Search Engine Tips:

Here’s the Condensed Search Engine 101 Class!

You know your business better than anyone and you can anticipate how customers using search engines will try to find you. We use your knowledge of your business with our knowledge about search engines to make sure certain key phrases about your services are found by the world.

How? By matchmaking the phrases you want to be known for and the phrases that search engines find your web site's pages. That is how your site gets noticed online! Some envision a complex procedure about how search engines work, and how they rank pages. The "black box" idea that search engines perform in mysterious and unknown ways isn't true.

Ricky Lark, Ph.D., handles the search engine optimization for our clients' web sites. He is our web site marketing "guru" who takes courses to be familiar with search engine strategies and the changing ways that they rank websites. He also is constantly reading newsletters about search engines. All this helps Ricky stay current with the trends.

Unfortunately, some webmasters continue to use old ideas to make websites. Some of these dated ideas may result in the website being ignored by search engines. Others ideas can result in hurting their client's chance of ever being recognized by search engines in the future: their site gets put on a list of web spammers and are ignored! Staying current with how search engines review websites helps our clients stay favored by search engines.

getnoticedonline.comSM has access to a database that analyzes the phrases and words used in the last 60 days by people using search engines. We utilize this information to make sure you have the best words on your pages. We consult with you and coach you through the writing process.

Text vs. Pictures: Which helps your site get noticed?

That is a question that often comes up as a website is designed. Here's the answer: the correct text on the pages is more important. Pictures help the viewer enjoy your page, but the text gives important information to the viewer AND to the search engines! Every page is there to represent a specific aspect of your business. Each page must have a focus of one or two top keyword phrases in the text to be successfully recognized by the search engines.

How does someone go about writing text for a web site? Sure the rules you learned in English class are a start, but there is a lot more you need to know to write effective text for a web page. Without taking the time to use the correct phrases, you can have a good-looking web site, but have little traffic drawn to it. Confusing? Don’t worry -- We are here to help you with the writing! If you prefer, at an additional charge we will write the text for your website.

More quick ideas

Here are a few more ideas for getting you a higher ranking or to maintain the making you've gotten:

  • Update your content at least every other month. Changing a single page this often will make your whole site appear fresh to the search engines.
  • Promote your website to others. Make sure your business cards, your brochures, your Yellow Page ad, your newspaper ads, your phone message, etc. promote your website.
  • Get links from other websites. Your Aunt Florence might be willing to put a link from her site to yours, but unless she is in the same industry it won't help that much. Someone in the dental field, for instance, should have links from websites belonging to anyone and everyone that is in their field. A insurance company website should link to it; so should every organization that the dentist is a paying member. The more links to your site (not from your site to others) the better your ranking will be!
